About noam nayberg…

Born and raised in Afula, Israel Russian-Israeli artist Noam Nayberg currently studies Architecture Design at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. He designs and hand-crafts furniture focusing specifically on chairs to further develop his architectural studies. Architecture is a prevalent subject throughout his work as his chairs relate to the processes, forms, and functions of the field. Structural experimentations lead to Nayberg’s subtle, yet abstract designs. His chairs are a tool to enhance the experience of space that the pieces occupy. Aside from creating structure for the human body, his chairs function as sculptures that impact and shape the environment in which they stand, similar to a building’s influence among a street. Nayberg explores the relationship between art and function; questioning the purpose and potential that furniture carries. As an architect he creates chairs to provide a personal connection with the occupier as they touch, and utilize them in ways that his building designs cannot. As our planet continues to face environmental issues, addressing and studying sustainability throughout his work becomes essential; creating objects from one-hundred percent recycled material, and burning wood to preserve and provide durability. Nayberg’s chairs serve an experience of art, function, and sensation. In 2017, Nayberg participated in a group show with fellow students at Sullivan Gallery in Chicago. Later in 2018, he received First Place in the Michigan Industrial Technology Education Awards for an Architectural Presentation. In 2020, along with private commissions, Nayberg is displaying and selling his work at the Robert Kidd Gallery.
